How long does Spring Cleaning take?
Don’t you just LOVE Spring Cleaning?
Well, I do. It's a great time to clean out the clutter, and prepare your home (inside and out) for the summertime. Before it gets too warm, now is the *perfect* time for a deep cleaning, since you’ll soon be spending the bulk of your time outside.
I recently put together a 5-Day De-Stress Your Mess Challenge to help people start (and finish) their spring cleaning.
How long does it take to clean a house?
The length of time it takes to clean a house, top to bottom, is going to depend on three variables:
- How big is your house?
- How long has it been since your last thorough, deep clean (like a Spring Cleaning)?
- How much STUFF do you have?
If you have too much stuff, spring cleaning will always take longer. (My Unstuff Your Life system can help if you have too much stuff.)
How to Spring Clean your house in a day
If you want to try spring cleaning your house in a day, get up early! Even if you don’t finish cleaning your entire house, in one day, you can make a lot of progress. Elle Smith over at Hunker is one of the go-getters who encourages you to devote an entire day to spring cleaning:
Cleaning the entire house in one fell swoop will take a large portion of your day, but once it’s done, you can relax for the week. Have a plan of attack, group your tasks and roll up your sleeves. It’s possible to clean your entire house in one day. – Elle Smith
Wondering when to start Spring Cleaning?
Maybe it's because I'm thorough, but it takes me more than just 1 day to complete my Spring Cleaning. If you are planning to spend more than 1 day on your spring cleaning, the more time you devote to it, the better. Martha Stewart recommends setting aside plenty of time:
Whether you prefer to proceed from the attic to the basement or start outdoors and wind your way inside, create a realistic schedule and focus on one task at a time, keeping in mind that a single weekend won’t suffice. – Martha Stewart
If you haven't started Spring Cleaning yet, your environment may be affecting your mood. The longer you wait, the more work it will be when you finally get around to it – so get started today!
How to begin Spring Cleaning
- Make a Spring Cleaning Playlist
- Invite a friend to come help you
