Moving a Business �Step 1
- Identify everything that needs to be accomplished
- Create a working budget
- Make company decisions such as: areas being considered, type of building desired, square feet needed, budget, office furniture, determine office sizes and who gets their own, make changes and/or upgrades to office systems (telephone, computers, copiers, printers, fax machines)
- Hire a tenant rep broker
Step 2
- Select a space and negotiate lease terms, sign lease, and give notice to the old landlord
- Hire an architect and/or interior designer (if needed) to create a floor plan, provide HVAC requirements for equipment, provide electrical requirements for equipment, design a cabling outlet configuration

- Hire vendors for cable, telephone system, security system, furniture movers, janitors
- Hire a general contractor, project manager, MEP engineer, get drawings approved for a permit, and obtain building permits (if needed)
Step 4
- Change address and telephone numbers
- Order new stationary and business cards,
- Order new signs
- Paint company vehicles
- Change vehicle registration (if needed)
- Update website for new address and phone numbers
- Update advertising
- Update yellow pages
- Notify the post office
- Throw away old, unnecessary documents
- Store un-needed equipment and documents

- Send memos to employees
- Letters to clients
- Notify the bank and accountant
- Notify the insurance agent
- Notify any vendors and suppliers

- Order boxes for packing
- Rent crates (if needed)
- Distribute packing materials
- Provide instructions for packing
Step 7
- Take complete inventory of the business
- Perform a backup of the network
- Perform a backup of the telephone systems
- Select department coordinators
- Create packing and labeling instructions
- Arrange to have computers and other valuable electronic equipment packed and moved
- Determine who will work on moving day
- Arrange for disassembly and reassembly of furniture
- Arrange to pack and move networking equipment and servers
- Arrange to prep and move the telephone system
- Schedule for parking and unloading at the new location
- Obtain moving and parking permits
