The holidays are coming

October 31, 2022

This week, I’ve been traveling in Ibiza to a wellness conference, and I’ll be away from home throughout the rest of the fall and winter.

I’m enjoying my time meeting new people and seeing new places, but I was reminded that with Halloween approaching in a few days, autumn is coming to a close—and then the holiday season is officially upon us.

If you are like many people, the lovely dreams you have for the holidays can quickly turn into a nightmare—especially this year when many of us will be gathering with family in person for the first time since the pandemic began.

You might have forgotten these questions and concerns over the last couple of years, and been equally surprised to find them surfacing so quickly:

  • How will I clean up my house in time?
  • I can’t possibly let my family and friends see my house like this.
  • The guest bedroom doesn’t have any room for guests!

These feelings, and any others you have, are completely normal. Studies have found that up to 80% of people have at least one clutter “hotspot” or black hole in their homes that seems impossible to keep clean.

Clutter is common, but you can change your situation. We all want to have a calm, peaceful house—especially for the holidays.

The problem is that during the season, we are often doing too many things—and we tell ourselves that we don’t have the time to fit anything else in … even when preparing for the holidays involves more each week than we thought we had time for as well!

The fact is, you DO have time, you just have to be intentional about accessing it and prioritizing what’s important to you now rather than what had previously been important to you … pre-holiday season.

So if you’re ready to declutter your home, I am here to help you make a plan and achieve your goal. When you begin to declutter your home for the holidays, prepare yourself so you do not get overwhelmed.

Decluttering your home now, before the rush and bustle of the holidays, helps you to avoid the potential for being overwhelmed.

Focus on one thing at a time and take your time.

I have all the tips you’ll need—with none of the stress or endless lists of spaces to clear out—at my post here.  While a cluttered home can make the holidays stressful, a decluttered home can eliminate stress so you and your loved ones can enjoy the time together making new special memories.

This year, however and whatever you celebrate, give yourself the greatest gift of all: a relaxed time with the people you love!

Once the holidays are over, you’ll want to start planning for the New Year — and we are here to help! Registration is open for the next De-Stress Your Mess Challenge!
